When students in this classroom went to write their own information books, they knew just what to do to get started, because they had already written several as a class.

It is critical to provide validation of your young author's process and growth as a writer. We work on saying the word slow together and hearing the first sound. Shared Writing

Any area of writing can be addressed, but it works well to put similar needs together and address them at the same time. Shared Writing

Guided writing lessons can be taught after a whole-class lesson once other students are actively engaged in independent writing. We listed possible topics, took a "quick and dirty" vote to narrow them down, then voted as a class on which one they thought would make the best story for our purpose.

You can see in the above example that all of the writing was done by the teacher you can tell by the handwriting that the kindergarteners did not write the words.
